LeRoy
P. Tyree "T Mambo Jazz" Bio
Tyree began his dancing career in 1990 with Cultural
Expression, namely through the teaching of Gloria
Farr. Since leaving CE he trained with several local
Salseros in Chicago. The major influence on his
training was Miguel Mendez at The Dance Academy of
Salsa of which Tyree eventually became an associate.
During and after those years at DAS he studied and
trained with several of the New York Mambo Dancers.
The main influence on his dancing and teaching style
is Eddie Torres. Tyree is a proponent of the Eddie
Torres version of New York Style Mambo.
In 1998 he began studying Argentine Tango with Al
Gates at Tango Chicago until 2000. Subsequent to then
Tyree has studied and trained with several of the
masters of the AT from Argentina.
He now specializes in teaching Salsa, Mambo, Cha Cha,
and Argentine Tango. He emphasizes a "smooth slick"
style of dancing across the board. Breaking down
complex material into its simplest elements so
students can better understand is the greatest
strength of his teaching style. In his classes he
focuses on timing, technique, style, creativity, and
elegance.
Tyree and his partner are available for exhibitions,
workshops, and class instruction at various venues. He
is also available for private lessons.
