Course Syllabus
Course Title: Salsa/Mambo Level I
This course is specifically designed for Salsa Dancers who break on
break on the first beat (on 1) who are transitioning to dancing inside the
rhythm (on 2). Frequent references and comparisons are
made with respect to the differences and likenesses to Salsa on 1.
Course Description:
This course covers the basics of the Eddie
Torres Version of New
York Style Mambo. A brief history of the music and dance is
is discussed. The theory of the basic time step and how it relates
to the music is explained, i.e. dancing inside the rhythm (on 2).
Basic styling, dancing in the “slot”, and dance floor etiquette are
explained.
Basic time step variations plus some fifteen open work “shines”
are taught. Fifty per cent of the time is devoted to the open work.
Basic partnering positions are taught. Basic one and two arm
turning patterns are covered.
Student
Performance Objectives:
Successful completion means students are able
to perform
the open footwork techniques to the rhythm of the music. Male
students are able to lead and female students are able to follow
the basic turning patterns.
