Course Syllabus

 

        Course Title: Salsa Level I   (Only Salsa is taught at Bally's)

 

        Course Description:

           This course covers three of the most  popular Contemporary Latin

             Dances Salsa, Cha Cha, and Merengue. Salsa and Cha Cha are

             taught breaking on the first beat (on 1). The main focus of the course

             is on Salsa. Only one and a half sessions are devoted to Cha Cha and

             a half session to Merengue.

            Salsa Music and Dance are explained from a historical perspective.

            The relationship between the music and dance is explained. A great

            deal of time is spent working on the mechanics and timing of basic

            time step variations as it relates to both solo and partnering work.

            Basic turning patterns, basic styling, and dancing in a  Aslot@ are 

            covered. Dance floor etiquette is explained.

           

            The basic time step variations, basic partnering  positions, and basic

            turning patterns for Cha Cha are covered.

 

            Basic turning patterns in Merengue are covered.

 

        Student Performance Objectives:

             Successful  completion  means students are able to  perform  the basic

             footwork to the beat of the music while executing  basic turning

             patterns. Male students are able to lead and female students are able

             to follow basic turning patterns.
